Startrails
This past weekend Johnny Horne came to speak at the SPE Southeast Conference we held. Mr. Horne is well known as an ameteur astronomer and photographer...he really has some amazing dedication and it was very interesting to see just how much work he puts into his photography.
Looking at his images got me thinking about a recent attempt I made at capturing star trails.
This photo was taken about 30miles from the nearest major city (to help cut down on stray light) using Fuji Superia 400. The exposure was 30min. at f/8 with a Nikon F90X.

Nice shot. This is from the camp site right?
Turned out well.

Yep! All the exposures (8sec, 15sec, 30sec from what I remember) were underexposed to some degree, but the 30min was printable. I made an 11×14 RA4 print before I scanned it. It turned out pretty good considering, nice black without being overly grainy. If I were to do it again I think at least an hour exposure would be better.
All the more reason to go back
